Superspace in Occupational Therapy Settings

Occupational therapy thrives on creativity, movement, and hands-on experiences. Superspace is designed to bring all of that into one powerful tool. With life-sized magnetic panels that click together with satisfying feedback, children are instantly drawn into the play. That sound and feel of connection provides a multi-sensory cue that encourages focus, regulation, and confidence while they build.

Therapists can use Superspace to target a wide range of skills, from executive functioning to strength building. Planning and prioritizing come alive when a child envisions what to create and decides which panels to use first. Sequencing and problem solving are naturally built into the process of construction, while attention and organization are supported through the need to follow through from idea to finished structure. Cognitive flexibility shines when a plan changes mid-build and a child adapts, discovering new solutions along the way.

The physical benefits are just as significant. Vertical play promotes core strengthening and shoulder stability, both of which are foundational for handwriting and fine motor development. Pushing, pulling, and lifting panels builds functional strength, while spatial reasoning grows as children experiment with balance, height, and symmetry. Visual-motor integration is strengthened every time they match, align, and connect pieces successfully.

Superspace also becomes a tool for emotional regulation. Large movements reduce cortisol and help children release energy in a positive way. The ability to create a small, enclosed nook—a “safe space” or “zen den” gives kids ownership over their environment and a calming place to regroup.

Because it is open-ended, Superspace easily adapts to both individual therapy sessions and small groups. It fosters teamwork, communication, and social connection when used collaboratively, and it supports independent exploration when used one-on-one. Every session can be customized to meet the child where they are and stretch their abilities in a supportive, engaging environment.

With Superspace, occupational therapy is not just work, it is play that motivates progress, builds confidence, and creates real developmental change.

"Superpace has been a game changer in our outpatient clinic. We have children that need adventure but limited stimuli for their environment. The ability to make something so big and later "click click click" it down to a small stackable set and put away with ease is my favorite thing about Superspace. We can turn our therapeutic space from a boat, or a train, or a tunnel, or a rocket in 10 minutes and then back to a blank canvas. We use it for problem solving, executive function, visual-spatial skills, 2-3 step planning, imaginative play, basic concepts, training attention, language immersion.... the therapeutic ways we use these tiles are endless. I also appreciate that I can use them with my 2 year old’s and 12 year olds. There are not many therapy materials that have that versatility. It is highly recommended by our physical therapist, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists."

"I have found these toys to be an excellent therapeutic tool that children are consistently excited to use. They provide rich opportunities to target a wide range of developmental skills across different clients. Children experience a sense of agency and creativity as they bring their ideas to life, moving from small building blocks to larger, meaningful structures. The magnetic properties offer additional proprioceptive input and naturally support bilateral integration as children manipulate, connect, and stabilize the pieces. Building also provides opportunities to work on force modulation and body awareness, as children learn how to use “just right” pressure to keep their creations standing. Beyond the sensory-motor benefits, these toys inspire imaginative play, offering endless possibilities for collaborative storytelling, problem-solving, and flexible thinking. Overall, they are a versatile and engaging resource that supports both therapeutic goals and joyful, child-led play."
